    M50 crankshaft bearing specs question.

Hay guys. As my M50 was an E36 motor, i pulled the E36 oil pan baffle that was bolted onto the bearing bolts. Untorqued those bolts with an impact gun and put them back in, not torqued to spec with an impact gun. it's looser than what it would be torqued to spec. totally didn't phase me that it needed to be torqued really specifically, but i put the pan back on, put motor in the car, and drove the car about 4 blocks and then it was back on jackstands (had to do more work to it). Basically, is my engine a ticking time bomb now? Not looking forward to pulling it again to fix this.

are you talking about the oil pickup bracket because the e36 windage tray is not attached to the bearing caps. If you are talking about the oil pickup bracket, if it were me, I would pull the oil pan back off and fix it. I believe those bolts are torque to yield (torque value + angle), so you should get new ones.

Pull the pan, replace the main bolts. its only the entire engine that can grenade if you dont.

for the record, I broke my pickup support off so I didnt have to disturb the main caps. not something you want to fuck around with

They're TTY bolts and can't be reused.

If you used big 1/2" drive impact gun to torq the main bearing bolt back you will be OK. These impact gun have maximum torq from 70lb to 150lb so you will be safe.

I know my impact goes up to 450 ft/lb in forward and 600 in reverse. definitely more than the torque on a main cap, and enough to remove any nut its come across

Sucks, but you have to do it. Make sure you clean the threads on the block before you put the new bolt in. (Preferably with a bottom tap). Then oil the bolt. Then retorque.
