    Bad Booster?

Ok so I have been chasing vacuum leaks around my S50 for the past month and I think I have isolated the issue. I can drive the car without trowing a code (1281-1221-1222) for days and even idle the car for 15min with no code at all as long as I have the booster line caped off. If I connect the booster line I get a code within a min. and the car runs like crap. I have tested the line and replaced it and have even gone so far as to try and apply an outside vacuum source to see if the booster will hold any vacuum at all. With my Griots vacuum bleeder hooked up I can draw vacuum until my arm gets tired of pumping and release the fitting to see if it has an suction and all I get is neutral. In the car at idle I can feel that the pedal is different than if I turn it off but I am wondering if my booster is just leaking so bad that I am only getting a partial effect. If I sit on a hill with the car running and my foot on the brake and then turn the car off the pedal becomes immediately hard. I know that is a lot of explanation but the replacement 944 booster is $200 so I am looking for input before I drop $200.

Do you guys think the booster is dead or dying?

Do you have a check valve on the booster? Either way if you can't build vacuum in the booster itself that typically means the booster is bad. Only other thing to check would be the o-ring that seals the master cylinder to the booster. With the car running spray brake clean at that junction and see if the idle changes at all.
