How far can you slide the driveshaft down the yolk?

So I got the motor in the car finally, and I'm underneath this thing trying to get the tranny brace and driveline taken care of.

    This is a M50B25NV from a 92' 325is and going into an 87' 325. Getrag 260 from the 87' 325 along with the driveline from the 87' 325.

I appear to be short over an inch.

So I can slide the shaft down the yolk a bit and get it flush... but it feels like it is really far out.

Can anyone weigh in and let me know if this driveshaft is going to work? Do I have enough slack to not shear off any splines? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I've always wondered this as well - looking forward to hearing more responses chiming in.

You'll be fine. If you really want to ease your conscience mark the driveshaft with a paint pen longitudinally across the splints so you put it back together in the same orientation, undo the acorn nut and slide it apart a bit you'll see you have lots of spline to play with

You will be fine, there's alot more splineage then you think.

Nope there are arrows pointing both ways. Those point back at the driveshaft the others point forward at the tranny.
