    quick coolant temp sensor question

So I have to replace the M50 coolant temp sensor with an E30 one. On the thermostat housing of AN M20 ENGINE, which one of the sensors do I need? And on the M50 head, is it the sensor nearest to the rad support or nearest to the firewall? Thx guys!

its the brown one with a single terminal on the M20, On the M50, IIRC its the black one, towards the back.

on an M50, no, it should thread right in. with other engines (mostly OBDII), you would have to rethread.

Mine threaded right in. Im actually using a black single terminaled sensor and it seems to be reading fine.

so how does a single pin get put in a spot for a double pin? what wires getting connected to what?

Im about to do this too. Its on a m50NV and its going into a 1991 318i.

Do i need to change the cluster to a 325 gauge cluster to match the temp gauge.
                faint in, throttle out.

The answer is on the E30, the connector has two pins in the connector core, but one of them is unoccupied.

I am having the same issue with my temp gauge not reading correct temps. Gonna be replacing this sensor on my m50 swap as well. Thanks for the great info guys!!!
