FML! Money shifted my s50 swap! FIRST DAY!

Yes, you read the title correctly.... My car has been in the shop for 8 months getting my swap done. Picked it up last night around 6pm. My first race I lost again a modded Lexus is 350. 2nd race I money shifted against a 08' turbo'd wrx... We were next to eachother the whole race until I went from 3rd(7.5k rpm) to 2nd (12k+ rpm). Some ppl blame the tranny for this mistake, I blame myself.... How screwed am I??? Should I buy a used motor, or change valves along with head gasket? I won't know how bad the damage is until tomorrow once we do a compression test... I guess what I'm trying to figure out is, how much money does and money shift cost?

An s50 e30 isn't much of a drag car. (I hope you were at least at a track)

      That sucks, good luck.

I really hope you were not street racing!
Street racing is for noobs! I am flaming you, but not just to be an ass.
Street racing is dangerous not just for you and your car, but for everyone around you. It is selfish and ignorant.
How do I know? Because I crashed a car doing it, and was lucky enough not to hurt my self or anyone ells around. I never did it again.
Go take a driving school with BMWCCA and learn how to drive a car. Get on a track and/or strip and do some real racing! Get of the streets!
As fare as I am concerned if you were street racing and money shifted you got what was coming to you.

I'd find another engine, usually at least one piston gets a bit holy when this happens. ;)

From the sound of it, seems like he was on the street and got too excited. Bummer.

I went to the track the day I got my S52 up and running and didn't money shift shit. I took it super easy until I fully got situated with the way the car behaved PLUS learned how the ZF liked to be shifted. I previously had a stroked m50 with a getrag in there... hence the need to learn all over again.

Having said that, I know its tempting to just go out and rip it up but you should have gotten a bit more acquainted with it.

You could have at least drove it to get familiar with it. I understand if you want to feel the power but two races on the night? You were just looking for someone or egging on people and sadly enough got what was coming.

Only way to know what you've done to the motor is by leak down/compression test, then cracking it open. Good luck but you totally r3v'd your car.

I know this wont make you feel any better but I slightly over revved my s50 e30 on track and it was fine for 2 days till it started misfiring...turned out to be a slightly bent valve...Good shift technique is key. I hope i dont money shift again.

Oh and keep it on the track please

I've done the same in my subaru when I first got it, RPM gauge only goes to 9k but it was maxed out. Almost 10kmiles later no damage has been found.

                          that sucks....

at minimum a bent valve or more....potential and likely piston damage....possible chamber cylinder wall damage, especially if a valve broke.

Did you rebuild your shifter linkage or is it all sloppy?

Sounds like the car needs to go back to the shop :(

if you didn't rebuild it before installing.......now is the time!!!
