I'm planning on starting up a conversion with an e30. Now my question is will a m50 or s50 series motors bolt up to the stock tranny, or will a m20 m30 series bolt up. Thanks.

You've got to read the M50/S50 thread like the rest of us. Theres more to it than that.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

I understand there is more, but as long as the motor can bolt up to the tranny and use some flywheel and clutch assembly, I'm pretty much sold on this idea. From what I'm reading, you can bolt them together.Comment

Well that depends on the type of car you have - 318, 325e, i, iX? Which is it and we can better help you.

would getrag 260 or the e36 m3 tranny be my best option?Comment

260 with a 3.73, or 3.46 diff. Really it depends on what you're using the car for- is it going to be track only, or a freeway going car? the overdrive of the 260 makes freeway driving nice, while the close ratio of the e36 tranny would be good for the track if used with a slightly higher (lower number) diff.

sounds like either one would be fine with the right diff. Is one a simpler instal then the other? I assume the e30 M3 drive shaft would have to be modified to work with the e36 tranny. the car needs to be able to handle some track duty but will mostly be a street carComment
