Oil Filter Housing Double Check (and prolly other questions)

A power steering bolt was broken off in the E36 M50TU oil filter housing bracket, but luckily I have one from a NV E34 M50. They're the same part # on RealOEM, but I wanted to double check.

M50TU on the left, M50 NV on the right.

I posted this in the stickied thread, but wasn't getting any answers.

agree with 328ijunkie, but will say check to see if there is a removable blockoff for the Vanos oil line. If realoem is giving the numbers as the same, it may mean you can use the Vanos bracket on a Non-Vanos engine with just a plug, but the reverse may not be true. All depends on how far BMW went in making NV parts forwards compatible with the upcoming TU for Vanos.

In the NV oil filter housing there is an allen head bolt plugging where the vanos line usually goes. You can remove it. Beware of OBD1 VS OBD2 oil filter housings. But you are good to go on this swap.

What's different on a OBD1 VS OBD2. Besides the plastic caped oil filter and need to use different oil filters?

              Not sure. Sorry.

              ANOTHER QUESTION:

              Which headers.

              These long tubez?

              or

              some shorty headers?

It basically comes down to metal vs plastic. All the metal ones can use the same filter, different filter for the plastic. The PS pumps are also specific to the OFH. If you use a plastic housing you have to use a plastic pump and vise versa.

OBD1 - Removable Plugs in the rear that can have the orings replaced with Viton coated o-rings.

OBD2 - Not so much, crimped closed.

                  ---------------------------------------

OBD1 - Uses a cast power steering pump bracket to adapt the pump.

                  OBD2 - Metal Flat Stock Bracket -

To use an OBD2 pump on an OBD1 housing you have to put a spacer. If I remember its in the .635" range. My Z3 is running an OBD2 pump on an OBD1 housing.

                  ------------------------------------------

                  OBD1 - Metal cap - JOY

                  OBD2 - Plastic cap - SAD

                  -------------------------------------------

                  Otherwise they are the same.
