    I know and I should have said the weight as well as the weight distribution is not a good comparison because the engines are in different cars. Sound deadening in the trunk can have a huge affect on weight distribution, as well as other differences in the cars. Again, the comparison is worthless because the engines are in different cars.

      In Australia we're very lucky to have the Euro spec E36s and all our M52 engines are alloy block. I've driven iron block and alloy block cars back to back and you certainly do notice the 22kg difference at the front of the car, even when the iron block engined cars have better suspension in them.

      M54s are a little heavier than M52 alloy motors due to dual vanos and cast iron cylinder liners.

        yup. you can even feel the difference between E36M with original S52 and S54 engine impact post swap. 20mm taller also iron deck and Dual vanos gear box does make a difference. nothing else on the car changed, not even clutch. Transmission never left the car.
