In my opinion its fun as hell, but not crazy fast. I was recently in my friends 05 cobra with a bored s/c'r and every bolt-on! now that was fast! lol i was thinking about getting the ebay turbo for now since with comes with all the piping and everything because my friend has one available for less than $800. Worst case scenario, if the turbo goes out, i'll buy a presicion turbo for like $900 and already have all the piping. The other thing im concerned about is the manifold, if that goes out then i'll contact otis. i know i wont blow the motor and im definitely not money shifting again. lol Plus im not really spending much money on the turbo im trading it for a few things. Either way im going to have fun and learn some lessons im sure. thanks for you input everybody, im just having fun! lol
"Do it right the first time" is the best comment I can leave here.

Swapping out turbos and manifolds isn't as easy as you make it out to be due to the fact that turbo exhaust flanges differ amongst manufacturers as does turbo placement with different manifold.

Having to re-do your downpipe and turbo to intercooler charge pipe will be the result of swapping out your ebay turbo for a precision turbo if yours fails. If yours are SS and tig welded, you are looking at some dollar signs.

You end up getting a lot more into when switching components out like you mentioned.

Just an FYI. Good luck with your project either way.

HKS turbo kits are usually among the top. they don't have any for BMW's that I know of, but do have Rotex Supercharger full kits for 24v engines. as in EVERY SINGLE PIECE included, engineered for the car.

price? LOTS. about 7k iirc; tuning is not included either.

there is no clean proven 24v swap +e30 PNP open the box and install boost solution IMO currently; aftermarket has not stepped up yet due to lack of serious customers.

its a big can of worms to open up........

BUT if its done well, you can DD a 500 rwhp turbo M50 in tropical heat. Stop and go rush hour traffic OK, Wangan to 180mph+ is also ok. AC, Power steering, all comfort items - good to pick up your friends at the airport or valet park at hotel.

real turbo kit money means real power.
real power means need for real turbo engine
real turbo engine = not OEM BMW NA engine, so full engine build.

also the issues of fit, packaging, oiling / cooling/fitament.

ALSO the driveline configuration will require some $,$$$.

then the rear end; I'd budget about 12-16K for a proper turbo 24v build.

5K engine; you will need a built one for turbo; not some scrapyard pile of poo. Even rebuilding a scrapyard poo engine to last under boost is not going to be less than 2.5K. hodge podge engines is not really the ticket for long life...

5K turbo setup; pipes that fit; oil cooling/scavenge, proper instrumentation and electronic support.

3k tuning/ECU/Dyno fuel and time - can't run away from this one...

3k driveline; how are you going to put it DOWN?

oh, probably some brakes will be needed also.
