I found a 328i that has been sitting for 2 years. It doesn't run right now, will crank over, but doesn't fire. I bet its either bad gas or fuel pump is shot. Would this be a bad buy for a motor swap? I plan on pulling the head off and freshening it up/M3 cams. But would there be any damage that could have occurred to the block from sitting that long? Rust or something in the cylinder walls? Just trying to make sure I'm not overlooking something. It will get all new gaskets, I'm sure they are dried out from sitting. Motor has about 130k on it.
Motor has been sitting for 2 years, good for swap?

I would say if you planning on taking the engine apart and rebuilding it. It will be fine. But for something to just throw in your better off finding something else. If your gonna grab it see if the seller will let you put a compression tester on it. that will tell you if there is any Damage done to the cylinder walls. Or if you have access to one of those nifty cameras that you can put in the exhaust plugs. -

I'd spray some lubricant down in the spark plug holes and see if it will turn over. I think it will be just fine!'91 "318is" slick top M50 turbo

There's nothing wrong with an engine that's been sitting. As said just make sure it's got fresh fluids. Another good idea is to remove the fuel pump relay so you can crank the engine for a while to lube everything up.Comment
