    m50NV OEM clutch-flywheel-TO w/ Getrag 240????

    SO.....

I bolted up my 91 318is getrag 240 to my m50 block from a 1992 e36 325is and did not make the change to the single mass m20 flywheel clutch and starter. AM I FUCKED as in this will not work, or just "dumb" for keeping a dual mass.

After micrometering the thickness of the e36 dual mass / pressure plate and clutch against the stock e30 42 one, they were strikingly similar and the throw outs seemed identical. The measurements weren't exactly equal, but within what i would assume are the allowable play in a throw out bearing/fingered pressure plate design. The only difference was a slightly longer pilot bearing surface on the shaft of the e36 getrag 220 (yes a 220 came on the 1992 325 ..dont ask its an odd model) than that of the 240. They both had 10 spline shafts that matched.

After extensive searching I cant seem to find anything that say definitively either

    A) yes the OEM dual mass flywheel and clutch from a m50NV will work with a getrag 240

    or

    B) no the oem m50NV flywheel/clutch WILL NOT work at all !!stop your swap now

Can someone please answer this and support there answer with experience or reason.

    Thanks.

the 240 has a dual mass clutch on the 318is, if the splines match up and the tailshaft rotates when out of gear and doesn't in-gear I would think you are okay.

If you're going to be running a single mass m20 flywheel use the euro 323i throw out bearing. Otherwise the stock one from the 240 should work with the m50 dualmass flywheels.
