Check engine light on a Motronic 1.0 ETA?

    Hi all,

My '87 325(e) never came with a check engine light, which is normal since it's a Motronic 1.0 car. After swapping in an M50 with DME, is it possible to add this functionality? If I swap the cluster with one that has a CEL, will the wiring be there for it?

    Thanks

Youre gonna have to add the wiring.

Give the light switched 12V on one leg of the lamp and the grounding wire from the ECU on the other.

      VOILA! CEL.

You can get the sockets that slip into the clusters off late model cars, same socket for ABS and CEL.

^ this. When i Do early model harnesses i run the CEL wire from the ECU and a red/white from the harness to the back of the cluster.
