Are M50s prone to cracking oil pans?

I've heard many cases of 318i's with m42's cracking their oilpans, the 525i oil pan looks very similar, and it seems like with more weight in the front it would be even easier to crack the pan. Is anyone useing skid plate, can you even buy one that will work with an m50?

I cracked my M42 oil pan. I was riding GC's all the way down and hit a cement lip with 3 people in the car. Oil pan=Gonzo. Was never the same since. Now I have an M50 and H&R sports. As long as you are aware and carefull you should be fine.

If the car is lowered, the oil pan will hang down. If it hits pavement hard, it will break. Drive carefully is all I can say; I've driven with both motors, susp. lowered 2-2.5" from stock, w/o problems.
