S53 swap - is this normal

So I installed my aux fan and let the car idle to a decent temperature to test the fan switch. When i was done I was poking around. I took off the oil cap and saw a milky residue towards the top of the valve cover. So immediately I'm thinking head gasket. I proceed to check the oil and Coolant for any evidence of mixture. None. Both clean.

    Is this normal?

How long has the s52 sat? I'm betting it's just moisture buildup.

        What Farbin said.
You're in the middle of a swap right? It's normal.

HAHA. S52.. Damn, flaming well deserved. No more R3v from my iphone. Between this post and one from yesterday, i have had my privileges revoked.

Yes, im actually at the tail end of my swap. The motor has been sitting since last October and today is the first time i actually brought it to operating temp. (well as hot as it can get idling)

Im thinking its just moisture to. I just wanted to double check. Thanks for the responses.

If that gunk is still there in a week after swap is finished, or if the temp climbs past normal, then you know it's a head gasket. Otherwise it's just moisture.

better to be safe than sorry for sure, especially when youre at the tail end of your swap. might be a good idea after about a week of driving to do a fresh oil change.
