is this enough to strengthen a vert?

s52 e30 vert with gt35r in the making. my question is will welding in something like the attached pics be enough to eliminate chassis flex and strengthen up my chassis? I can't stand the look of a vert with a full cage on it, and i dont plan on going on the track much so regulations aren't that mcuh of a priority.

Found htese pics on a thread here on r3v. Hope he doesnt mind me snagging 'em. I love the look of these and how it fits with the doorcard.

If this would work i would most likely just fab the top and bottom bar and the vertical bars, then round it off just above the top bar. thanks for any advice.

Those door bars are not about chassis strengthening - they are about keeping the driver and passenger safe in the event of a collision where another car punches through the door.

The chassis strengthening comes from the triangles built into the overall cage - and a well built cage makes a HUGE difference to chassis rigidity. The addition of those door bars to the cage probably makes some difference to rigidity, but the cage is the source of the strength. The door bars are just protection.

If you made a box around the cab, tied it into the rear wheel arches, and then built the door bars off of that, I am sure it wouldn't HURT rigidity, but it is a lot of weight to add. You'd be better off with a plain ol' well designed cage.

Just my thoughts. Hooray for Internet wisdom.

wont hurt the strength but can't tell how you have to top /sides of the cage braced to each other or with the car. If they aren't tied into each other somehow, you're still going to get some frame flex. Like hwy84 said, those door bars won't do much of anything against torsional twist. Well, except get in your way. To stop frame twist you essentially need to tie all four corners, top and bottom together.

And you are going to add a few hundred pounds of steel if you do it right....

        you need something like this.
