    s50b32 with 10,000 miles...

    Hello Guys,

Just traded in a s62 for a s50b32 plus some cash. Will be picking up the engine this weekend. And planning on swapping it on my e30 m3 during the summer. This engine came of out a euro Z3 m roadster. It has very low mileage. Approximately 10,000 miles and has not been started in 10 years or more.

I have a couple questions for those of you with engine know-how.
What would be a good idea to do to the engine before swapping it in my car?
Is this any different from an engine that has been lying around a year or so, to the one i am getting with 10 years plus of no action?

Your comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    thank you

Pour some Marvel Mystery Oil into the cylinders, and rotate the crank by hand after letting it set in the cylinders for a few days, then do the same again. Minimum.

Farbin is right. If the car was being stored inside, or at the very least, outside, but with the intake manifold on, the spark plugs in, and the exhaust manifolds on, then the very minimum you ought to do is to pour some Marvel Mystery Oil (a light oil sold in most automotive stores), wait a few days, and try to turn the crank by hand.

The reason for this procedure is that the piston rings MAY have fused themselves to the cast-iron block. The bearings, because the oil has been sitting so long, may have some pitting. This pitting is caused by the acidic byproducts of combustion just sitting in the oil. Depending on the age of the oil prior to the car being parked, this process may have started already. This is easy to check--when you take the oil pan off, remove one of the main bearing caps and inspect the bearing.

I would change the rod bearings and nut, just to be on the safe side..and you will build up oil pressure

I would also watch oil pressure at start up.I bought a mechanic oil pressure gauge and it screws into the pressure sensor....or install a aftermarket gauge

          I luv gauges

hey 328iJunkie. thanx for the info.

I have a wiring harness adapter for a s52 from treehouse racing.
Can I use this same adapter for the s50b32?
