91 318is transmission, will it work?

I've been trying to figure out if the trany in my 91 318is will work, but no one seems to agree. On the first page of the comprehensive swap thread it says that any e30 transmission will work, however later on someone mentions that 91 318i transmissions won't. I've also heard that e36 318i transmissions will work, don't all m42 cars use the same trany? Thanks again, this forum has really helped me sort things out.

Yep, I'm trying to put a m50 in. Sorry I didn't mention that.

well i have heard that you can use the stock tranny but you have to put it at an angle or something but i don't think it was ment for to much power so it would prob be best just to get a getrag 260.

the 260 is the tranny that sits at an angle. the 260 is robust and can take tons of abuse. if i were to do it all over again id run an e36 non m tranny. im currently running the zf box and its heavy

IM NO EXPERT ON THE E34 BUT I HAVE TO BELIEVE IF THE E34 HAS AN M20 ITS GOING TO BE THE EXACT SAME THING. IF YOU HAVE AN E34M50 CAR ITS GOING TO RUN A DIFFERENT TRANNY NO??
