What??? Do you even know wth hell you are asking?? Clearly not.
Although that engine appears to be a run of the mill m50b25.

this was before i got into the whole e30. unfortunately i had to drive a... hyundai for two years before I found out about this miraculous machine. I wasn't 100% sure if it was b25. thanks for that

OK but how exactly is a m50b20 supposed to look?
Are you thinking you somehow got a 2.0L m50 instead of a 2.5L?
Where the hell are you getting the whole b20 thing from??

maybe hes asking if its an m50 or an m52. It could possibly be an m52b25 or m52b28 just with a full obd1 swap including the valve cover. Really no way to tell besides looking at the stampings on the block and running the vin.

Well it looks to have the egr still connected, probably an m52 or a bunch of weird shit connected to an m50

He's asking what he stated. Look at his power figures in the poll above.

I'm just curious on how or why he thinks there's a chance he has a 2.0L B20 when they were never sold in the US. Not only where they never sold here its very unlikely that a private individual would have imported one as well.

Clearly he is misinformed or spending too much time on the interwebz.

It does have OBDII exhaust which would have came on a M52, but then everything else is OBDI including the oil filter housing. What color are the injectors and also check to see if the DME chip is stock.

You could also quickley pull a spark plug out and measure the stroke.

Agree with what everyone above has said - B20 motors were never available in the USA so how on earth would you have one?

In Australia the way we tell the difference is with the inlet manifold, the B20 motors have slightly different inlet manifolds with thinner ports and also a smaller throttle body which requires the use of a smaller intake boot.

However, if the inlet manifold has been swapped the the M50 B25 inlet manifold, its anyone's guess - they are identical in appearance.

The fact that you have the secondary air injection thing already says that it is NOT a B20 motor as thats a USA-only thing, Euro spec cars don't have this and all B20s are euro spec.

Dont listen to these clowns, they dont know what they are talking about. That motor is clearly a m10b16 with an M50 valve cover. Who ever sold you that car really shafted you.

yeah m10? lol. could be possible. that would be such a dick move to sell an m10 disguised as an m50. so b20 wasn't sold in the us? cool. i guess its about 99.9% m50b25 cool

that would be a dick move, but clearly it possibly could have happened to you.

you need to check the casting numbers, thats the only way to tell if its an m10 or m50

The m50tu was a complete redesign from the M50 and was actually based off of the M10. The only way to know is to pull the head. Pull the head and post pics and we'll let you know.
