Compatibility of ancillaries M50 to M52

    Hi Guys,

I've got an M52B28 for my swap, but minus ancillaries (a/c, power steer, alternator etc). I'm looking at buying an M50B20 (not sure if an M50TU/M52...will be checking it out soon) just for the ancillaries. I'm hoping it's from an E34, and a single VANOS so I can poach the ancillaries, OBD1 ecu and oil pan. So, does anyone know if there's any problems using ancillaries from the other M50/TU/52 series engines???

    cheers,

    Andrew.

You can swap the OBD1 stuff over but my understanding of the E34 was that the harness wasnt good for the E30 swap. Apparently the DME was in a different spot so the wires come up short.

The stuff that bolts onto the engine stays though. In fact, you have to get a part off an E34 525i to put the M50/52 into the e30. I know they changed brands on alternators and such but I doubt that has anything to do with mounting it to the engine.
    Im now E30less.

the e34 wiring harness is usable- its just not very clean. You either need to make a box to set the ecu on your battery tray (doesnt work in a cabby) or you can push the harness through your firewall- but your ecu basically just rests in your glovebox.

you can use the e34 wiring harness just fine, and put the ecu in the glovebox. Just build a couple of little brackets and it will fit tucked up like the stock one.

          Excellent! Thanks for the info.

What about just extending the harness if it's E34? Is there a problem with doing that???

I dont quite believe that it'll fit anywhere near the stock location- but i half-assed it for a few months and just let it set in my glovebox.

              it'll work for sure though.

If you want an e36 harness i've got one for you...

Hopefully today I'll find out what exactly the 2L is, and what it's from. I'll go from there.

ECU-wise, I was intially going to go aftermarket...but if this motor I'm buying is an M50TU...I may as well use its ECU.
