Just Curious... Schrick E36 M3 cams into M50?

I already have S50 cams, 24lb injectors (overkill, I know), Euro HFM, headers, and a chip but I am just curious what Schrick E36 M3 cams could do in terms of power to an m50 with a proper tune?

    Anyone have any input?

All in all, I miss the power of my SR20 240SX but I LOVE my E30, I just wish it had a little more power than 200whp. And I really don't want to go turbo right now with a new baby girl that just popped out. (Lack of time)

P.S. Searched for this, but couldn't really find anything on it.

You would probably see more gains from installing S50 cams on a M50 but installing Schrick S50 cams on a stock 2.5l wouldn't really yeild that much more in terms of power and would most likely just trade off low end torque for high end hp.

Not true. OP, if you research the BFC track section, you'll see multiple m50/m52s running e36 m3 Schrick and Sunbelt cams putting down awesome power!

I know there is a guy with an m52 with the 264/256 Schricks and he's making 247whp! The m50 wont make that much less power, just less bottom end, which I feel isn't that bad in a light e30.

Look into some Raceland headers if you plan on going with more aggressive cams IMO. If you sell your s50 cams for $300, and look into some used Schricks (seen a few sets for $7-800 on BFC), you wont be THAT far out of pocket, and you WILL see a noticable difference.

That's typical of M52 due to the .3l of additional displacement which makes more difference than the cams will and I guarantee its not just the cams making all that power in said race engine.

The money would be better spent on buying a M54B30 rotating assembly than on S50 Schrick cams and you would have much better low end and overall hp. No way I would ever put $500=$700 cams in a stock $150-200 2.5l M50.

Well it is fully rebuilt with oem parts. The block and head were machined, etc. Plus changing the rotating assembly is a lot more work, as well as turbocharging.

              Performance Specs:
              Full OEM rebuilt M50tu
              TRM Custom Tune Chip
              S50 Cams
              24# Bosch Injectors
              3.5" Euro HFM
              Amsoil Intake
              Super Sprint replica headers
Custom 3" exhaust, no Cat, Vibrant 3" Muffler
              ZF Transmission
              3.25 LSD

Installing new cams and getting my chip retuned for the cams would be significantly easier.

So usually $300 for m3 cams hmm? Looks like so far some people say it's worth it, some don't.

              Any more opinions?

The M3 S50 cams would be but I wouldn't see the M3 Schricks doing much more for a 2.5l engine. The M52 mentioned about is a 2.8l so naturally it would be more responsive a more aggressive cam.

Honestly, some of the mods like the 24# injectors are more likely to hurt your performance as they tend to be a little heavy even for S50 engines and the 3.5HFM really doesn't do anything performance wise until you are pushing 3.0l+ of displacement. I would recommend no more than 21.5lb injectors on a 2.5l M50.

At this point in the game your performance restriction is engine displacement, and some of your listed mods may actually decrease its performance and unless you drive this car everywhere pegging the car at 5k-7k you will miss that compromised low end torque everytime you pull away from a stop during daily driving.

Just talked with one of the techs at Turner, he said if I already have S50 cams, I am going to notice maybe a 5hp gain from going to Schricks.

I wonder if anyone has some solid evidence, dyno charts or whatever to prove what the outcome would be.

That may be a little tough to find, not many people put that kind of money or those kinds of mods into a M50TU these days.

Someday I am getting Schrick copy cams made at Delta... http://deltacam.com

Call them and see what your price would be on getting some s50 or schrick copies made out of m50s. Undoubtedly cheaper than buying Schrick cams, even used ones.

I had my m50nv cams reground at delta they are cheap they said they got all they could safely get out of my cams, but you may get more out of the m50vanos cams or s50 cams......
