Can't Twist the Shift Selector 10 degrees

I am doing the rear TABs and the subframe bushings, so I have the diff and driveshaft out etc. I decided to mess with the shift selector rod 10 degrees to get my shifter position to normal but DARN! This thing wont budge. I tried torching it for over 5 mins until it is hot, but it still wont twist. I am using my arm strength - any suggestions?

use some pliers like channel locks or vise-grips.

I grabbed a deep 10mm socket and my longest socket extension. I put one end of the shift rod in the vise and slipped my socket+extension over the shift rod. I then used a little butane torch to heat the center section, then just started applying my body weight to the socket extension. It then began to turn.

I ended up having to bend it twice as the first time I didn't get the full 10 degrees.

      Hope this helps.

Me and a bud used iirc a couple of vise grips and moved with ease.

I did use the vice grips - but I guess I need a table vice.

You need a vice. I think I used a crescent wrench on the fork to twist mine.

Three sockets taped in a vice to make a bending jig to shorten it.

definintely need a table vice. Heat it up and get something with legitimate leverage and you'll be shifting straight in no time.

I didn't use a vice. What are you heating it with? I used oxy acetelyne.

I am just using the benzomatic torch. Maybe it is not sufficient? I need a vice for sure.

we also slipped jack handles over the vice grips for leverage

                              lol...

when i did this, i literally took each end of the selector and put it into the ring part of 2 spanners. it twisted with no effort. piece of cake!
