    Hot DME?

I have noticed that my DME is getting very hot, is this normal?

I'm not talking about 20 degree celcius hot but maybe 50 degree celcius!

    Thanks

DME's get pretty warm, but if you cant keep your hand on it then there is an issue. Also varies by dme. Check all your engine grounds.

Engine and coil grounds. Mainly the coil ground will make the ECU cook

The coil grounds themselves or lack of them?

Ok, I have used the stock ground points like it was when I pulled the engne from the E36M3.

I have one ground under the coil cover and one from the motor mount to the chassis.
Can it be an idea to make a ground loop from all the coils to the chassis then?
Maybe ground the cylinder it self one more place?

                Where are the coil grounds?

Coils are grounded through the cam cover. But today I made an extra loop for them.

                    Check the second picture here:

there is a ground cable for the #1 and #6 coils. if those are missing your coils are not grounded because the threaded holes where their screws go in are molded in the plastic valve cover and they are isolated from the cylinder head.

                          Reason:
DME did not receive the intake air temp signal, so something inside it is broken.

New DME is fittet, and is not as warm as the old one was.
