the previous owner of my car said he swapped in an m52. the thing is, it looks like exactly like an m50. I now have the engine out and had a chance to check the vin. it says it comes out of a 1997 328iS. those come with m52b28's right? the question is... wtf is going on? :loco:

The plastic valve cover and vanity cover from the S52/M52 are interchangeable with the S50/M50.

the oil cap is in the back of the engine. m/s52s are at the front though

you have an m52 that has been converted to obd1. Conversion includes: Intake Manifold, valve cover, blah blah blah.... stuff that makes it look like an m50
