    s52 exhaust questions

ok guys its time to go to the exhaust shop and i was talking to this guy who really seemed to know everything there is about 24v swaps so he was telling me that the best thing to do with exhaust on a s52 with obd 1 and a trm chip and 24lbs injectors is 3 inch piping no cats to a muffler he said this is what he gets the most power from but idk i feel like im going to loose power. my friend had a e39 540 and he did that with 2.5inch piping and he lost so much power what to u guys think the best thing for me to do

Seems most go with 2.5" piping if going single. I went with 3" single behind my raceland long tubes, no cat. One res. One muffler. It's loud and it drones with the windows up. Some days I love it others I hate it. On the days I am not fed up with the drone it sounds fucking amazing.

The rest of the time I feel like I'm goin deaf.

What you're describing is almost exactly what I have, just with a Dinan tune rather than TRM (came from the e36). I haven't had any issues at all with mine, everyone who's ridden in it has raved about how the car runs, and the car pulls hard. The noise isn't too loud as long as I'm below 4k. After that, the sound goes up exponentially, which I actually like.

well today i drove down to American muffler in LI and i got the exhaust done i put 3 inch piping no cats no resonator to a borla xr1 race muffler omg it sounds sick only charged me 200 $$ witch i was happy with but after 30 min of driving i had to buy some advil so for now its ok i am not really driving the car. So ill get some type of resonator or figure out a way to quiet it down with out loosing power

Why the hell would ANYONE go with 3" piping with no resonator? It's silly. A properly sized resonator will make an exhaust sound BETTER (more harmonic tones, less rasp) and have far less drone. Not doing a resonator is rape for your ears. A good resonator setup will cut out 99% of drone and make the exhaust note sound so much sweeter.

Try a 22" or 24" Magnaflow. Ask your exhaust shop (if they're any good). I used a 22" Magnaflow resonator on my TL 6-speed and it made the exhaust silky smooth, rich, with absolutely no drone. Everyone that has driven/rode in my car has loved the sound and the lack of drone.

That's my recommendation. A resonator will make you a lot happier! :)

A single resonator won't be enough, just sayin.
