    Motor Mount orientation

I've searched and searched and I can't find anything that tells how these mounts are supposed to be orientated. I know they go on the outside holes, are they inverted or not? The main problem I'm having is trying to figure out which way the tab points. Does anyone have a picture. The other thing I'm confused about is people keep on talking about the 5mm spacer that you need if you don't have m5 mounts. According to BMW and Bavauto there is no such thing as a M5 mount. All e28s from 528e to the m5 use the same mounts with the same part #, so when do you need the spacer?
    Thanks

i have no clue what your talking about with the 5mm spacer... i've never ever heard of that.

Just stick to the 535 mount- thats what i'm using and it works great. Joshh is working on getting some urethane mounts made- but that probably wont happen for a while.

    Have fun.

Addissimo, how did I know you were gonna answer my question, thanks again man. You've answered every question I've had! Not that it matters, but the 5mm spacer is in the first page of the comprehensive m50 swap thread.

haha- i have no life :)

It seems that half the info on the first few pages of that thread is simply speculation, and "I heard..." The really useful information is in the middle, and the trouble shooting is towards the end :)

        How's the swap going?

The spacer is mention on the Orca CD too. I didn't use it either. Everything sits like it should and nothing is rubbing.

I think the spacer was intended for more exhaust clearance.

My exhaust is custom so clearence was fine without the spacer. I also used just the 535i mounts, there has been swaps using mixed mounts.

I used the M5 puck style motor mounts and had to make a 1/4" spacer so the motor didn't rest on the steering rack. They have worked great and are very stiff.

I think I posted this in the wrong section yesterday. Anyways thanks for clearing that engine mount issue, sounds like I'll need to slide a spacer in. Addissimo, the swaps going pretty well, I haven't gotten to any of the hard parts yet though. The engine and tranny are in, now I have to tackle the wiring. Does anyone know where I could find some information on this? If I buy that adaptor do have to do any wiring?

                  so wait...
why'd you decide on the spacer?

if you buy the adaptor you shouldn't have to do much if any wiring. If you do have any wiring to do, it'll be minimal.

It's all based on the year/model of your chasis, and truthfully- I don't have a clue what is needed for anything other than an 88 325.

That being said... don't pay $400 for one. But I don't know how reliable this guy is either.

Its really simple- I wouldn't pay to have it done, but then again, I wired my sds system into my stock wiring harness... (ie. I'm a patient person).

Thanks for the link, I'm not going to install a spacer untill I get to the exhaust issue. It souldn't be hard to slip some washers in there. As for the wiring I have done plenty of wiring before so I don't mind it but I need to know where everything goes before I sart cutting wires. Is it as simple as matching the colors up?

No... some wires do match that way, but most dont.
