    M52 Swap Thread

Ok, so I have compiled some parts for my swap... help is needed however!

M52 from 96 E36 328i - I have everything from the donor vehicle; accesories, ews, dme, etc
Use stock headers or find something off of eBay?
G260 from E30 - Which custom trans bracket should I purchase?
    Stock E30 driveshaft
    E21 Booster - already modified
Either REVshift or AKG motor mounts need to be ordered - any recommendations?
    E36 Radiator - fan recommendations?
Wiring - should I follow the standard pinouts posted all over here or is going to be different with the obd2.
Use the M52 DME? I have a 413 red label, but not obd1 yet.

Any help on a few of these details would be greatly appreciated. Will update with photos when I makes some actual progress.

As for the headers I am running stock OBDII headers with no clearance issues.
Im using an E36 318i rad. with a Spal 14” pusher fan 1750cfm.
I used E24 motor mounts, although i wish I would have gotten the ones from AKG as they aren't really at the correct angle so it was a tight fit.

On the other stuff I went ZF tranny and OBDI swap w/red lable 413 and a chip from TRM.

      Hope this helps.

        1. OBD2 headers flow fine.
        2. AKG, but beware the studs may be a little short for liking-still work just shorter than I would like.
        3. A nice spal will work well.
        4. If you are not sure about the pinout use an ETM and check for yourself. You will learn a lot more like this anyways.
        5. If you not OBD1 then you need to use the m52 ecu.
        6. SEARCH.

I heard that the Revshift swap mounts fit better and are easier to install. They are also made from better materials and they have stronger internal assemblies.

If the Revshift mounts are better than AKG.. Why doesn't Guten use them?

May want to source an E34 oilpan, oilpump pick-up and dipstick tube while you are at it.

Because Guten isn't the only shop in the world? While I think GPS is a great shop, they aren't the standard by which to be measured. No offense to GPS or Levent, but one shop shouldn't be your only reason.

I should note this is not my first swap... I did an S50 swap about 7-8 years ago, and I simply forget everything that was involved.

The added complexity of the M52 is what I wanted to clear up.

I sourced all of the parts for the OBD1 swap - 2 questions, what chip will go in the red 413 to work appropriately with stock obd1 m52? and the harness I have is from an automatic, I read about some 'modifications' that need to be done. Can anyone elaborate further?

                    Thanks,

                    Jim H.

Stock M50 chip with the obd1 swap and M50 manifold?

                        Clip it and be done?

                          Yes?

Open the harness and take it out all the way to the x20?
