Nice writeup. Did you find out what was wrong with the motor or was it just tired?
Are you a Lucky Charm lover too?;)
Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

Cylinder walls had a tiny bit of rust- I think I could have gotten away with running it, but I had the head off and I felt goin' goin' goin'... thats what I did.
I know how that is, thats why my 02 is dead. I just kept on going and going and cutting and cutting until it was no more. Thanks for the write up, what did you notice that made you decide to strip it down?
Awsome write up, I finally got my m50, it is from a 92 5 series, it was supposed to be in great running condition, but when I arrived home to find it sitting in my driveway on a tire, it isnt as perfect as it seems... What are your future plans with the motor, are you going FI or NA?
I'm not doing anything too crazy with my engine, it still needs to remain fuel efficient and reliable.
3.0 block, being bored to 86.4mm for
3.2 pistons
3.2 crank, being lightened ~10lbs
3.2 connecting rods
S50 camshafts/lifters/springs/retainers
mild porting on the head, port matching, multi-angle valve job...maybe radial, we'll see
whole bottom end will be ballanced
lightened m20 flywheel
probably a spec stage3 clutch
I'm running sds standalone fuel management system www.sdsefi.com to read more if you're interested.
What is wrong with your engine? It doesn't seem like you should be able to tell that too much is wrong with it without opening it up a little.
If you need any m50 parts I've got them for cheap :)
Feel free to ask any q's, and welcome to the wacky world of the e30m50 :)
beleive me, there is more debris on the intake side above the valves than there is in my gutters.. leaves, gunk, a coke bottle top's seal, but I did only pay $227 for it so. My plans are to go the 2.9L route and slowly pick up the parts peice by peice. I guess my next purchase will be a bentley manual so I know what I am pulling apart. this is the first time I will have messed with an engine with any type of electronics so I am a little nervous, but I will figure it all out eventually
Thats the link to the auction, it took almost 90 days to get it to me, and then arrived 6 hours early and I wasnt home so he talked with my mom (who was not too happy with the suprise visitors) they guy was straight out of the devils rejects so I am glad to be done with it,
