I know it can be done, i have read all the threads but none say what they used to make it work. Its for my daily. I have the e36 driveshaft and clutch kit. I was told that i need to change the selector rod and some other things to be able to shift. could someone help me out in this??? I also have e21 booster just need this to drop in the motor. Gotta get this done if im going to Gfest!! Thanks.

Its going to blow up, I went through 2 of them just to see how long they would last. Both higher milage transmissions but they didn't last long at all...///Alpinweiß II 24v 91' 318is, Alpinweiß III 99' 323i, 04' Yamaha R6 SE for sale, 00' VW GTi, 83' El Camino BURNED, 01' P71sold, 92' Miatasold

I would like to use one with my M52 when it goes in. My motivations are to have overdrive while keeping the transmission at an angle where I don't have to bend my shifter setup.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.Comment

I believe you would need a stock E30 318i driveshaft but they are pretty weak gearboxes.
I blew up two of them on my stockish M42 powered 318is but others have not had any problems. Its hit or miss but honestly you'd be better off just reusing your G260.
Using a G240 to avoid bending your shift linkage is cutting off you nose to spite your face. Not mention a lot more expensive. Honestly for all that trouble you could mount the ZF320 that's meant for that engine.Comment

I've been driving the piss out of my M50TU swapped e30 for 2 years now with a g240 with no issues at all (40,000km a year).
Lightened single mass e30 M20 flywheel, e30 M20 HD clutch kit, euro 323i TOB, e36 5 speed shift linkage with a shortened e36 5 speed selector rod. I think the driveshaft is a 5-speed e36 325i but i'm not 100% sure (325i = 1512 mm long, 328i = 1492 mm long). Either should work regardless.
**Edit
Oh yeah, stock e30 g240 clutch slave cylinderComment

It'll work, but as others has mentioned is pretty hit or miss.
You need a '92-'95 E36 325i driveshaft & E30 CSB.Originally posted by BillBraskyE36's are the Stephen Baldwin of the 3 series family. They barely hold everything together and they only sold a lot because of the popularity of their older sibling.

For daily duties i wouldnt worry too much about it, but aggressive driving or autox/track days it wont last.Comment

I firmly believe that this makes the difference between those who have issues and those that don't.
I admit that I drove the dog shit out of my 91 318i. Ran it up and down mountain trails, beat on it through the Tail of the Dragon, let friends beat on it, hauled tons of car parts, etc. Each gearbox lasted about 1 year.
Though a well oiled G260 can take quite the raping. I don't like being scared to drive my car however I want so I usually opt to do it right the first time.Comment

I would love a zf! My m42 gave up and I located an m50....(I would rather buy that than buy another m42...even tho I enjoyed the hell out of that High rev motor) so just dropping that sucker in and GO!!Comment

I have an s50 with g240 and I drive the shit out of it. No problems. I also used the e36 325 driveshaft and the stock selector rod. I just got the selector rod a bit. No problems at all.Comment

But even still its kind of like the M20 clutch setup on a S50/S52 discussion. 50/50 hit or miss.Comment

m50 and g240 here, I like spirited driving and no problems so far, about a year since I swapped it and put on close to 7500 miles.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

yep, you need a manual e36 325i driveshaft with a E30 CSB mounted backwards.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.
