    M50 from a E34 525? Can it be done?

    Hi,
Is it the same as from an E36? I have a good chance to get a E34 525 for cheap, but need to know if it will work as a swap engine in my E30?

    Thanks - Cheers!

get the e34 m50. its the same engine but has some diff stuff...like the oil pan (you will need the e34 one). Either one you get you will need parts from the other engine to make it work in a e30. But hey there is a HUGE post that covers how to put a m50 in an e30.

Yes, the m5o from the e34 will work. many people prefer the engine from an e34 because it already has the right oilpan on it.

        Great!
Yes, I did notice that short thread on engine swaps. I guess I'll read it and print it out while at work where I have enough time. :)

Thank you for the quick reply.

That's the motor I got as well. Is it an auto?

I don't know first hand, but I've heard that the wiring harness on e34s is to short to mount the ECU in the stock e30 location. Has anyone else heard this? Even if it is true its worth it just for the pan, pickup, tube, etc. You will need to pick up a set of e36 motor arms.

Probably true since e34s have the DME in the engine bay, not the glovebox. However, I think I have a wiring harness from a 5er, and there is just enough length for it to get into the glovebox.

it sits just on the other side of the firewall when using the e34 harness.

for beauty get an e36 harness.

                  Been there done that

The harness is slightly shorter but you still can fit it in the glovebox

You will need E36 engine arms to fit it in your engine

I posted the part numbers for those arms on one of the last 2 pages of the "holly shit this is long thread" (M/S50 thread).
