    Head volume

Does anybody have access to the head volumes for the m50 and s50 engines. I think they're the same head casting, but i'm not positive.

I need the "combustion chamber" volume of the head to calculate CR of my 3.1.

    Thanks

I havn't seen the combustion chamber volume published anywhere, but it can be calculated if you know the original bore, stroke, head gasket thickness and compression ratio.

If your just measureing the volume of the head you can use the same method people use when they modify a compostion chamber. Use a peice of plexiglass with a hole in the middle and lay it over the bottom of the head, with the head upside down. Then use a syringe and see how much water it takes to fill the combustion chamber.

Thats old school style right there.

BMW has to have it published somewhere. Call a piston company, I'm sure they could tell you.

Here's how to do it with the plexiglass. Looks pretty simple but you still don't have the S50 volume....

            thanks for the website...

I was in hope that I wouldn't have to do it... but I might as well, damnit. I'll let you know what I find.
