    Swap Worthy?

Looking to pick up a donor car. Here's a 95 M3 that's hit pretty bad. Would you even buy it? How much would you pay?

tough call without seeing the car, or getting it dirt cheap. Personally, I would want to make sure the accident didnt impinge on the motor in a meaningful manner, IE broken timing cover/oil filter housing, etc. if those are damaged, the chances of internal damage are greater, and thus the risk of a shitty motor. If its listed at an auction (and it looks like it is) see if its a runner, that alleviates the concerns that I mentioned. In either case, 99% of the rest of the car, aside from the drivetrain appears OK, but you may play hell selling the parts. overall, see if you can get the whole damn thing for about the going rate for the motor separate, about $2k or so
I saved 15% on my Bimmer parts by switching to ...

it is an auction. I just watched another 95 M3 go for $775. They have a 525iT selling the same day as this one, but the allure of S50 power over the M50 is tempting. M3 is listed with 192k and no confirmation that it will start, the location of the shift knob makes me think that the impact was enough to knock the trans off its mounts or break them...

The 525iT on the other hand has 127k and confirmed to start/run... but it's an auto and I'll still need the E36 mount arms.

As for selling parts, I would most likely pull everything for the swap and a couple other things, then send her to pick-n-pull. I have no interest in nickel'n-diming out the rest of the car like a lot of R3Vers might.

I just picked this up earlier this week. If you could get that car for under $1500, you could make your money back. For reference, there was no damage to the front of the engine in my purchase.

They disable the ASC (if equipped) then go hunt some Armco. ;)

I have contemplated buying both cars, but I just don't have the time/space to gut them both. Plus, if the S50 lost oil pressure the internals could be toast anyway. Looking at the position of the shifter inside the car there's also a chance that the tranny/driveshaft are toast as well. Unfortunately I don't have time to go check it. I think I'm just gonna snag the E34 and pull its M50/harness and run it behind my 318is's getrag 240. Once the reg M50 is swapped in and running it will be easier to wait for a GREAT deal on a better engine and swap it in place of the M50 later.

Anybody need a decent E34 touring shell?
