    S52 Compression

    I'm on the hunt for a S5x swap and found a motor on bf.c.
    His compression numbers posted were the following:
    Cyl=psi
    1=150
    2=150
    3=145
    4=151
    5=151
    6=155

    Is this a little on the low side or am I missing something?
    Thanks in advance.

    with compression you're usually looking for continuity across all cylinders. depending on whether this is a dry or wet test will also have some play in the actual psi displayed on the gauge. Wet test will show higher numbers, dry will show lower. being that there is a max spread of 10psi from lowest to highest I'd say everything is good. I don't know the exact specs for S5x motors, but i dry tested an M42 w/cams that also showed ~150psi on all four cylinders and ran great.

        I'd do some more comparison searching on compression numbers for e36M usa.

        my crappy s52 burning hella oil (1997 M3) was: 195 190 200 205 200 200 PSI (1-6 cylinders)
        OBD1 M54/M52TU swap as a M50b25

          My S52 w/ 110K was in 195 PSI range. I saw that motor on BFc and compression numbers turned me off

            was the test done correctly? that could always be a factor also.

              ^Test done incorrectly or at crazy weird atmospheric conditions or low comp pistons/HG
