How do these cylinder walls look?

I just picked this M50 up for cheap. I took the head off for inspection and want some info as this is the first time I have done this:

Was the motor running at all when you bought it ? If you are just looking to daily it, i say get some WD40 and a green scotch brite pad and clean that shit up. M50 motors are so cheap now that it doesn't really matter honestly.

    I would run it.

The previous owner said it ran good with the exception of it smoking. I assume there was a headgasket issue. I plan on cleaning and getting better pics tomorrow. I plan on using 0000 steel wool.

The plan is MLS and a turbo build...

I see some sitting coolant damage. That engine was overheated. You got to pull the pistons out and inspect the rings. Cylinder walls look ok.

I say rering it. If you can afford it have a machine shop check and hone. At minimum hit it with a dingleberry hone on a drill. If you said you were gonna put it in your daily cuz the m20 shit the bed I'd say run it. But if it already smokes, and you are going to throw boost at it, why not do a little extra work while it's all apart.

Also did the PO specify what color smoke and/or what it smelled like? Did you find a place where it looked like the head gasket failed, or a cylinder that looked different from the rest? Smoke means bad rings, bad HG, cracked head, or bad valve stem seals. Or possibly clogged breather system but that's less likely. Anyways...with the head off you should definitely get the head checked and do the seals, you're doing the HG...just do the rings and get it over with and sleep easier when you're pushing 15psi sonnnnn

Its going into the shop for an inspection later this week. I just wanted a preview of what i was going to hear. Most likely it will be honed and reringed.
