    Pc load letter!??

    S50 OBDI Swap -> 1989 325is

    TMS 506 Chip for:
    3.5 MAF
    24# Injectors
    Regrind Cam (Schrick copy)
    LTW Flywheel

    I have all those mods.

    Freshly rebuild engine.

Fires up idles up and down then eventually stalls out. No vacuum leaks, good voltage, good ground.

Throws 1281 with every ECU I put in it.

Code 1281 = Control Unit Memory Supply

WHAT THE FUCK DOES THAT MEAN!?!?!?

is there a keep alive voltage (unswitched 12v) that is applied to the DME? if so, check on this wire (have to check the ETM) and see if you have the appropriate voltage. seems to me that the car is telling you that it is unable to maintain a memory in the DME because a voltage is missing

The weird thing is that the 1281 code didn't pop up the CEL until after the engine warmed up.

that is when the computer goes into closed loop, and starts looking for the missing memory

Honestly, I'm no electrician so I paid Dave Markert (328ijunkie) to mod my wire harness so I do not have the slightest clue as to where to start looking. I was told it would be plug and play.

Dave is on his honeymoon so I'm pretty much on my own until next week or so.

Words cannot describe my frustration at this point.

I have nothing to offer other than laughter at the thread title.

I would be happy to go over the wiring with you and do some diagnosis.

My contact is below, please compile your basic swap specs and we can talk.

Anyone know for sure which knock sensor connects to the connector with yellow around its wires and which one connects to the blue one?

Ok, figured out knock sensor connectors.

Swapped in another complete harness and still similar results. It hunts for idle and dies. When cold it runs longer with a vacuum leak.

Starting to think its the reground cams causing all the issues.

Shricks should be running smoothly with a tune, sunbelts will make you're car want to die at idle.

Can you drive the car at all? I had this problem when I forgot to ground the DME. I had to keep one foot on the gas when I was braking. I know you said you had a good ground, but did you ground both the DME and the engine?

Now my car only hunts for idle every now and then, but I've heard a few people say that will happen with a light weight flywheel if the tune is not set up for it.

The chip I have is setup for LTW flywheel and Schrick cams. The regrinds I have are more aggressive than Schrick or Sunbelts.

I ran the profile by a friend of mine familiar with different cam setups and he said I would need a custom tune with around a 1400rpm idle.

If your cams are more aggressive than sunbelts I think you're going to have some issues getting them to run right. IIRC you have to limit vanos travel with sunbelts as well as sorting out the idle. Also, sunbelts are set up to rev out to 7400 rpm. I would hope you have some valvetrain mods to prolong your engines life lol

I would hit up TRM to see what they can do for you.

Edit: found a good link for you: http://www.eurotuner.com/techarticle...3/viewall.html

Give that a quick read. I think once you get a proper tune and adjust the vanos you'll be good.

Nah, I want a daily driver so I went ahead and put the stock cams back in. Once I get back from visiting family for Father's Day I will fire her up and report back. I really don't have any need for such aggressive cams so I'm trading them for another set of stock S50 cams to give to a friend.
