so has anyone here actually done it?
I have a lifter ticking on my S50 that drives me crazy so I got a hair up my ass and trying to solve it without buying a new set. I grabbed a few "test" lifters from a PnP and took one apart for S&G's. It was locked up but came apart fairly easily. After completely disassembling it and figuring out how they work, I cleaned it with solvent and compressed air then reassembled. There is a tiny ass spring in the check valve part that could easily get lost but other than that its a breeze. The small pin (for lack of better word) on the bottom of the lifter slides in and out easily now. I imagine that this part gets locked in place and doesn't allow oil pressure to pump it back up fully, thus creating the tick.
I'll pull all the lifters in the engine out eventually and rebuild them but figured if someone had their valve train apart already, this may help.
No dis-assembly pics taken, but will add some next time I take one apart.
and to my dismay, I just found the process on a geo metro forum...whaaa??
anyway, the innards are exactly the same.
