E30 S50 things i need to clarify

    E30 S50 things i need to clarify

    Alright i am working slowly but surely to get this project done and i still have some issues here.

    1. Do i need to move the charcoal cannister on my car seeing that i have no room to get a engine arm mount on to my engine mount with out it getting in the way. Also very close to the booster.

    2. I am gonna use the getrag 240 from my 318is can i do this, does anybody know for sure.

    3. I am dropping an s50 which i should have around thanksgiving but i still have no wiring harness or ecu. So do i need a harness from a car that was obd1 and had vanos and had a manual tranny?

    4. The shifter issue supposedly the getrag trannys from the e30 sit 10 degrees different or some crap ho do i go about fixing this situation so that my shifter will be straight and true.

    5. As far as using the e30 tranny bracket i plane on putting in an engine mount in place for the factory mount to make up for the 3" gap ,sound good anybody else do this?

    I don't think this tranny will work. I'm not 100% sure though. most people use the Getrag 260 or the e36 tranny.

    A harness from an automatic car will work. you will have to cut off the part harness that is for the automatic though.

    You will have to cut your shift linkage and rotate it 10 degrees and weld it back together for it to line up.

    Give it a try, but i doubt it will work. Most people make a custom tranny bracket.

        I dont the the 240 tranny works either. If however you need a 260 getreg and your in socal i have one you can pick up, a long shot i know.

          you dont even need the charcoal canister. if you decide to keep it, just move it to the side when you put your engine in, and it'll fit back in its stock place when you're done.

          I havent heard of it being done. if you decide to try it, the main thing will be making sure it bolts up to the engine. if it does that, you'll need a clutch for that tranny that will take lots of power, the m42 flywheel & starter. Your main problem will be finding a clutch (assuming the tranny bolts to the engine.)

          the wiring harness i am selling you on bimmerforums will work perfect :)

          dont even think about cutting your linkage. Put one end of the selector rod in a vise with the rod and... I'll put something up on my website in about 20 mintes, just follow those directions.

          There are alot of variations you can do to get the stock bracket to work. I've heard of using e21 tranny mounts, s14 mounts, an engine mount and a stock tranny mount... if you dont want to make a brace your self, or dont want to wait for a group buy to go through, play with your mounts.

              You should try to find a 260 tranny. I think if the 240 could work, someone would have done it by now.

                Alright also which ECU's can i use on the s50 and what would be ideal EWS issues etc. .

                Also when i mate the e30 tranny to the engine will i need different pilot bearing and such or will the 2 work together with out mods.

                  413 red label. Most red labels came without EWS, a few did though. Silver labels all have EWS. You don't want EWS; you can buy a silver label, but you'd have to find a stock S50 chip to put in it.

                    I had a silver label 506 without ews. Its hit or miss for all of them really. Red label is the safest, but you'll want a chip if you're trying to use a 413 on an s50, and you'll want a chip if you're trying to use a 506 with ews. either way, you're using a chip.

                    you can get a million different chips at tms, find a chip, find an ecu, you're golden.

                              Ive been doing tons and tons of reading and research for this project but people arent real specific,it seems like most people just say what they did but dont exactly tell you how to do it. Like to rethread my brake booster shaft after i cut it i went to the machine shop next door that makes tools and got a specific sized dye and hand made the thread , it cost me $10 bucks but i could give people the exact thread size and everything and tool names, unfortunately most people dont do that.

                              Thanks guys for all your help!
