    M50V swap, starter not engaging

    What's up R3V,
Quick question, the starter on my m50 has started acting funny. Every now and then (and it's getting more frequent) when going to start the car (never on a cold start, only after driving for a bit) it will simply do nothing. I will turn the key to crank, all accessories have power, however the starter will simply do nothing. When jumping the car, it will crank right up, but only with a true jump, a jump box does not seem to work. Solenoid on its way out? Bad ground? Anyone else have this issue? Thanks in advance guys, trying to sort this quickly as it's my daily.

this happened to me a few times. My starter was just getting stuck for some reason. i tapped it with a mallot and it started right up. I would make sure to check your power wires on it though. sometimes they can loosen and arc

Hmmm alright. Thanks for the reply man. Maybe I'll pull it, check it, make sure it's sorted and throw it back on. Or I'll just replace the damned thing.

Could be a flat spot, that would explain if a little tapping fixed it. The fact that is hasn't happened on a cold start could be coincidence.

Alright guys update: I really need a hand on this...so now instead of doing the "won't start" dance, once started I will turn the key off, and the car continues to run. Unhook battery, car continues to run, I have to pull the fuel pump relay to get it to die. All the research I've done has pointed to bad ignition switch. But I've read people replacing that has not solving the problem. Any other ideas?

Sounds right to me. First nothing happens when you try and turn on. Now won't do anything when to turn off.

Lol exactly. It's killing me. Im going to the junk yard tomorrow to pull some "new" relays and an ignition switch. Hopefully that takes care of the issue.

The not turning off is either a bad ignition switch or a bad (sticky) main relay. If the starter doesn't spin at all, it's either a failing starter, failing solenoid, or bad ignition switch. I'd start with the main relay as it's the easiest to fix, but I think your problem is the ignition switch.
