I bought black insulation material from local residential HVAC shop. It is the same material BMW uses on new BMW cars. I bought 1/4" thickness and two 3'x4' size sheets, cuts easy , secured it with those plastic holders and also glued it in few places. Looks good.
AerocelĀ® EPDMElastomeric Sheet Insulation is a flexible closed cell and lightweight elastomericmaterial
with a smooth and durable surface, designed for insulating large pipes, tanks, vessels, air ducts, inside air
handling panels andmore. It is available in 3' x 4' flat sheets and rolls in thicknesses of 1/8", 1/4", 3/8",
1/2", 5/8", 3/4", 1", 1-1/4", 1-1⁄2" and 2".Comment

I had the same confusion on the insluation. It says "found under the dash panel" so it sounds like it's the interior piece but it's not. It goes on the outside of the car. The P/N 51481916442 is the one you want. The 2nd link from ecstuning is exactly what I got. Goes on the firewall in the engine bay and tucks into the transmission tunnel a bit. I got it in a week from ECS. They're great about getting stuff like that.
Link again to make it easy:

And I'm 100% sure it fits. It's on my car right now. Kind of a pain to get around all the hard lines etc but it can be done with patience.Euro S50 Daily Driver: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=279195Comment

No problem. If you don't have the round washer like nuts I'd order some of those too. I can't remember how many you need. A few are metal around the header side too. I guess it keeps it from degrading over time.Euro S50 Daily Driver: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=279195Comment
