    E36 M50 Vanos Harness vs E34 M50 Vanos Harness - Differences?

Hey guys, so I am going an M52 swap at the moment and I am at the point where it is time to break out the ETM's.

So I purchased my harness off a fellow R3V member who was going to do the swap but never did. I asked him if he knew what year/chassis the harness was and he did not know, so I have no clue! Haha.

What I do know is that it IS a M50 Vanos harness.

Now my question, is there any way to tell the difference between the E36 M50 Vanos and the E34 M50 Vanos harness? I can post a photo of my harness when I get home from work.

Are they essentially the same with the ETM's that it doesn't really matter what year M50 harness I look at for my wiring, as long as it is a M50 Vanos harness ETM.

The motor is going into a 1991 318iS, so if anyone already has a wiring layout that they wouldn't mind sending me, it would be nice to check my work against it.

Thanks in advance for any answers,
    Brandon

    No one?

Just is the ETM between the E34 M50 Vanos years the same, or close to the same, as the E36 M50 Vanos years? Hopefully the PO of the wiring harness can find the year and model the harness is off of.

the e34 harness has the 3 relays on the passenger side of the harness by the ecu plug. e36 harness has the relays on the drivers side of the harness.

e34 harness has the oil level wires built into the harness, e36 harness does not.

Wire colour/gauge will be pretty consistent across all the years/models so just match the x20 pin numbers to the c101 pin numbers and you will be fine.

Thanks frankie591, glad a fellow Canadian came to help! Born and raised in Saskatchewan most my life.

The e34 harness is also shorter in comparison to the e36 harness. You might have to tug and stretch it to get it to fit the mounted dme.

I have heard it is shorter, but should be plenty long enough to fit in the stock mounting area. :D

Vacation starts tomorrow, no E30 work for 2 weeks. :(

I used a e34 one and it is shorter. I had to rearrange the wires a bit and then I was able to mount it above the glove box but only by flipping it upside down and connector towards the fire wall.

So it is possible. Haha. Good to know. Vacation starts today, no E30 for 2 weeks, sad.

So I finally got the harness out again and it is in fact the E34 harness, thanks guys. Going to use a 1994 525i ETM, might cross reference with another year as well. I will probably post my spread sheet later on in a new thread just to see if people have no discrepancies with it.
