I ran stock s52 stuff for about 15k miles in a g260, behind an s52. Stock meaning dual mass, and stock pressure plate and clutch. Of course u need a starter from a car that had m50 in it, e36, e46, prob e39 all good (PM me if you need one, i have a spare minty fresh e46 one with starter threaded so you don't need nuts).
I liked it. I recently swapped it out for a lightweight aluminum flywheel (10-12 lbs I forget) from a 328i, running a stock 328i clutch. Usually rigid flywheels have sprung clutches, but I couldn't find one that would fit and I just decided to try it to see how it works. Not hard to drive, but I didn't really notice any change in acceleration. Definitely more rev happy in neutral, and the revs drop fast on clutch in. Didn't need to adjust tune, it seems to have learned to idle fine. Tranny is noisier and if I ever come close to lugging and sometimes even sometimes well above lugging it'll make a racket. Like 2k rpm's in 5th on the highway, slight throttle, it can make terrible noises. Never used to be a problem with the boat anchor dual mass.
Do I prefer the aluminum one? Maybe. Makes the car more interesting. Would I suggest dropping the dough on one? No. If you can get a stock dual mass for cheap I'd run that. This is assuming stock power s52. When I used to work at a shop e36 m3 guys would come in for their first clutch at like 100 or 120k miles. Granted they probably weren't beating on their cars as much as I do, but still...stock works fine in my opinion. -
He's asking more about the clutch, not the flywheel (seemed to be more what you were talking about).
Stock M20 clutch is fine for stock power applications. If you start getting into things like big builds and/or forced induction, you're gonna want something a little more heavy duty.Comment

Yeah I have a uuc lwf I had planned on just using a stock e30 clutch kit for the time being... maybe more power in the future but that will be a ways away. I think I'm just gonna stick with a stock Sachs kitsigpic
Who`s attention, and why do I have to pay them?Comment
