    M50 swap oil leaks

Having issues with an M50 swapped oil leak. there is oil accumulating on the ground towards the center of the car, probably closer to the driver's side directly under the oil pan.

I've been told it's the chain tensioner, but I'm not sure since that is on the passenger side isn't it?

Not sure where else to look. I pulled out the dipstick tube by accident when I didn't know it wasn't secured. After looking at that there seems to be an o ring about 6 inches up the bottom of it (hard to explain) so I don't think that is spilling oil out.

    Any insight?

Also, This is a really dumb question but when I remove the oil fill cap I see wires in there and it doesn't look like a normal oil fill, kinda scared to pour oil in there.

Chain tensioner is on the passenger side, did you change out the seal for it? Did you change all the gaskets everywhere else? Oil pan, oil filter housing, etc?

Also, did you change the rear main seal? Neglected to change mine when I did my swap, and it was leaking. Pulled the engine to change it and do some other work, not a drop now.

Not sure. I'm going to go ahead and order the updated chain tensioner ( I think the fork style piston one is the one I need, non vanos motor). That comes with the seal. I guess I will go ahead and order the oil filter housing gasket as well since I see that come up alot... Anything else I should do while I'm working on those two?

The oil pan gasket, and the rear main seal, if you didn't change them before.

Before I dropped my M50 in, I changed every seal and gasket I could get to. I simply forgot the rear main because the engine was on a stand, and it was out of sight/out of mind. Regretted it, because it was the only thing leaking. Now there's not a single drop of anything under my car.

In addition to the actual gasket between the filter housing and the block, there are two plugs on the housing that leak. You can change the o-rings on them while you are at it.

I would just order the entire Victor Reinz top-end gasket kit, and replace everything you can get at.

The oil leak will almost always manifest on the driver's side near the center. That's simply the lowest point on the engine. Replacing anything at this point is you almost literally throwing money at the car.

Clean everything off the motor that you can. Make sure it's all dry and there's no oil leaks. Drive it around, park it, wait like 30 min or until the oil leak shows. Then trace the oil up to its highest point. Start from the top down. Deduce where it is, don't guess. Unless you have shit tons of money. In which case, rip motor out, rebuild, put back in. Or go LS1

              Status: HG repair. 488wtq though!
