E39 M52b28 block with E36 aluminum mounts issue

Ok so i have searched a bunch and cant find a definitive answer. I have an E39 M52b28 engine in a 91 318is and having issues with the E36 aluminum engine mount arms. Passenger side goes in just fine. Driver's side has three bolts line up perfect but the bottom right bolt (looking at the engine from the driver's side) is offset just a little bit (1/4 of the diameter of the bolt).

Is anyone else had this issue?

Can i just make the hole a little bit bigger to accommodate for the one bolt?

    Thanks

    Zach

Been there before, the e39 engine mount uses another two holes farther to the right, the holes for the e36 mount are just rusty since there wasn't any bolts in them all these years, just clean them out with wd40 and screw in a bolt slowly, go back and forth and clean out as much as you can or you'll break the bolt.

I had the same problem. just make the hole bigger. the original mount that came with my s52 had an oval hole on it. i swapped it out because it was very ugly and the "new" one had just a round hole. i have a picture of it somewhere. i'll find it an post it for you.

ok thanks thats what i kinda figured. now I am having an issue with my engine not sitting in correctly. Im using e28 535 motor mounts (the black trapezoidal ones). I put the threaded stud into the slotted part of the subframe and the locating pin in the circular hole on both sides of the engine. It looks like the passenger side needs to be higher up.

          Can anyone confirm this setup?

          Thanks

That's the way it should be. What makes you think that it should be higher up? i used the m5 green mounts but heard that the 535 one is softer and the engine sits lower a bit... i don't know how much lower though.

Ok got it all taken care of, im running a getrag 240 for now and i thought the trans crossmember was symmetrical so didn't think to flip it around, once flipped it around everything lined up perfect and yea the black 535 mounts seem just a lil soft il let you know once i drive it

              Thanks for the help

Dude, I did the same thing. Once you realize they aren't the same it's obvious but when you're just trying to get things put together its easy to just look at it and think it's symmetrical.
