timing chain tension question

see if anyone in your area has a set you can rent/borrow. there are enough Bimmer folks around up there you should be able to find someone to assist. Takes about an hour or two to do the seals, start to finish.

Just to clarify, bad seals in the vanos could be the cause for my 1222 code correct? Since it deals with a/f ratio and timing, and idle, etc. right?

1222 is a possibility. not the highest on the list of options, but it is there nonetheless. faulty timing can cause all kinds of problems

Well the engine was running perfect with no codes and no rattle sound, and I had it up to operating temp numerous times and still no codes. It wasn't until

vanos and the exhaust are completely separate, except the open headers would tend to mask issues due to sound, and possible erroneous readings from the O2 sensor. if the motor has a few miles on it, change the vanos, its due

Yeah it has 160k on the motor and I'm not
Sure if the vanos was ever refurbished. How would i check to see if the upper chain tensioner is bad?
