Dead Fuel Pump - My fault, or was it just its time to go?

In the final stages of swapping an S50 into a 1991 318i - I've already started and driven the vehicle a few times, so I don't think I did anything terribly wrong with my wiring, but the other day the car died while idling in the driveway. I checked a few things, and eventually tried putting 12v directly to the pump -- nothing. Could it be something I did/didn't do during the swap that killed the pump, or was it just age? I believe it is the original pump, and it has a little over 100k on it.

My swap car has 320K on original pumps.... You run it out of gas? Car sitting for a long time ever? rust in tank?

Car sat for about 1.5 years. No visible rust in tank when I drained out the old gas and refilled it. Added five gallons after I drained it, and probably idled for a total of 1.5 hours and drove for a total of 15 minutes. Gauge shows 1/4 tank left, and has seemed pretty accurate so far. It was up on stands when it died, so it's possible it was at an angle that starved the pump, but the gauge still showed ~1/4 at the time.

well if youu give the pump 12v directly and it does not run id guess it is a pump. as long as your doing that part right

The pump in my 91 318i died with no warning so it happens.

Got a good used one for $40 if you still need it :)
