    M50v swap questions

    still have a few unanswered questions. 1994 m50v into 87 325is.

Can someone tell me what the 8mm and the 10 mm wire on the starter are for? My starter only has a place for the 10mm one(3hookups in all)? I think it may be an early model starter.

    Starter is figured out!!
Another question! I plan on running an aftermarket coolant gauge cause i would like to know the actual temp and the stock gauge always seems to give me problems(wacking the dash and other weird moves to get it to work), so wondering if i can just plug my gauge in right where i switched out the e36 temp gauge with the brown top e30 gauge for the cluster or do i still need that one!

Also running an oil pressure gauge so i believe i can just put a tee where the oil light sender is or is there somewhere else i could put it? Thanks

Just fix the stock temp gauge. Works fine. Change you SI
      board batteries.

Theres a few E36 Oil dist blocks out there for the oil pressure sender.
and if youre getting rid of the stock temp gauge then no you dont need the brown temp sender. Perfect place for an accurate reading from an after market sender.

Another question! So the car is running now and when cold seems to iddle fine, but once it warms up a bit it starts surging up and down and almost stalls out then rpms go up to ~2k. i do not have the o2 sensor hooked up yet cause i dont have the exhaust done could this be the problem? Checked for vac leaks cant seem to find any??/

bump idle still surges from ~300-2000 and occaisonally will stall out. Only when its warm, when its cold it idles perfect. Also when the rpm's go way down the intake make a poud sucking noise like its really trying to get air! Any Thoughts!

Checked / cleaned the ICV? I had weird idle issues and thought I had cleaned it out, but it needed more. I ended up soaking it in wax/grease remover (that they use for bodywork) and opening/closing the valve while it was in there.

People think ICV problems are always constant, mine was intermittant like youre describing. had a tendancy to stick shut after reved up a bit. worth the check. Other than that I would say vacuum leak somewhere. o2 can cause rough running, but I dont think it should be stalling out

Oil pressure is good to take off the dummy light sender with a block as mentioned, or you can use an aftermarket filter cap.

thanks! I had tried cleaning the icv but that didnt do anything! May need to try again.

Wondering what my fuel pressure should be at the rail? It seems it could be running rich(kinda smell gas sometimes). I did upgrade to the pink top 21# injectors during the swap, could this do anything? It just runs really rough once its warm, while cold it runs perfect! Thanks

Did you get any sort of tuning for the bigger injectors? Do you have the stock ones to try out and see if it helps?

If its a vacuum leak, only proper way to check is a smoke test -- I'm having one done this week.

You tried unplugging the TPS/MAF for any differences? Any engine codes if you have your light hooked up?

You cant just put bigger injectors in without a tune.

K I knew i would have to get a tune with the bigger injectors but didn't know it would through it off that much! I have the old injectors so ill through them in an see if that makes a difference! Also i'm pretty certain i dont have a vac leak cause i pretty much changed all of them, the intake boot and everything! Thanks for your help i'll update with the other injectors!
