First: hardware. Are there any notable differences between the M52 and S52 harnesses? I really can't discern anything on the ETMs.
Second: software. Since both motors use a Siemens MS41.1 DME, the only difference there can be is in the fuel/ignition maps/VANOS activation, right? Could this software change be flashed by a competent tuner? Also, there is scarce info regarding desoldering the chip that controls the fuel and ignition maps on the DME motherboards, allowing either a chip socket, or just a simple chip swap. I'd like to explore this route if possible, as I already have an S52 DME.
Right now I have an S52 DME and harness from an E36 M3 but am considering picking up the full compliment of DME/harness/EWS/all OBD2 components from a running 2.8 Z3.
Why? I like the idea of running the DME exactly as it should from the factory, with all emissions controls, and with EWS protection for my car. I will, however, be omitting ASC because it likely won't communicate with the E30's ABS computer, and traction control is for little girls anyway.
Thanks all.
