My husband happened to have an extra fuel pump from his honda build so we made it work and IT RAN! Thank the little baby jesus it finally ran, I can't believe it was the damn fuel pump all along. I replaced the fuel pump about 6 months before I took it off the road to do the swap so it was literally the last thing I thought would be the problem. Now I just have to get the exhaust done and tie all the loose ends and she'll be on the road in no time.
Thanks for all the help guys! Now I just have to figure out how to talk my husband into helping me turbo the M3

May I suggest a TRE fuel pump? I'm using them in both of my e30s, I like them! Check them out here. I'm unaffiliated, btw.We finally got around to checking a few things out yesterday, we jumped the fuel pump relay and got power to everything, fuel pump fuse and fuel pump but still no fuel. So I have to buy a new fuel pump since that seems to be the issue, I just replaced it a year ago so I never would have guessed that was what was wrong.... hopefully this fixes everything and she'll fire right up. Keeping my fingers crossedLeave a comment:

You positive you're getting spark? Do you know if the injectors are firing? If you get spark, it has nothing to do with the auto trans wiring in any way. The neutral bypass stuff will keep the motor from even turning over. So if the motor spins over, it isn't any of that.
What year/model is your car? Can you post wiring diagrams? Either you have something plugged in wrong or the wiring isn't right.Leave a comment:

had the same issue when i first finished my swap, i initally made a jumper wire and gave 12 v to the fuse for the fuel pump and the car ran, it ended up being a shitty connection in the trunk at the battery + terminal there was a brown wire with a ring terminal on it that had seen better days, replaced terminal, car runs fine now.Leave a comment:

I would just put an inline fuse in and run a wire directly to the battery for starters.First I would jump the fuel pump relay with a good wire to fully rule out faulty relay. I don't remember the pins that need to be connected (85-87?).
If still no crank, I'd leave the jumper and pull a temporary wire from the relay directly to the pump to rule out immobilizer or faulty wiring between relay-pump.
If still no worky, than the pump has to be bad or just rusted stuck. Sometimes all they need is a whack to the top.
Just rule out things that are known to fail.Leave a comment:

Also wanted to add does this plug next to the ECU plug do anything? We assumed it was for the Auto transmission but we didn't know if we needed to put power to any of the wires, it doesn't plug into anything...

The husband made it and we've checked it with 8 different places and it all looks correct, he's pretty good with wiring I think that's why this is so frustrating for him...
wow, i don't want you to go over your post limit...after 6 years in membership, you have 8 posts...
and after the lots of Oral chime..well, that certainly relieves a TON of frustration, its still a matter of not running..
10-toes has it right though...1st priority is to ensure the fuel pump is good...jump that thing to know it works..if its been dry for a while, it just may be a bad pump.
if it works, well, you should be able to at least hook up a temporary wire to the ignition or something like lights to help with theft if thats an issue...also, if you have an aftermarket alarm..i have one that cuts the fuel pump, and is just one more thing to check when this shit happens.
also..make sure you have gas..and no-one syphoned it while it was on blocks...really gotta be methodical.. and if you have done this, well, were here to help you get your post # up.
I know the pump works because I had to replace it with the M20 right before I decided to swap it, its practically brand new. The car has been locked up in the garage so no one has stolen gas from it. We were as a last resort going to wire the pump up to a switch but my husband was afraid I would forget to turn it off when I got out of the car, which isn't out of the realm of possibilities. Thanks for all the advice so far
as for the post count... yea I signed up when I bought my M3 just haven't been to active
Also I just bought an E30 vert to swap the M20 back in the car if I can't figure this out so I'll either have a vert for sale so or a complete M50 swap depending on how this goes...Leave a comment:

The IN line is the one that goes from the fuel filter. the fuel should go in at the front fo the fuel rail and the Return line comes from the back after it goes through the Fuel pressure regulator which is connected to the back of the fuel rail.I do have spark... we even left the fuel lines unconnected so we could make sure which was in and out before we hooked back up and not even a drip of fuel is coming out when we crank it. It turns over fine and even with starting fluid it acts like it wants to crank but it never has
Front-IN
Back-ReturnLeave a comment:
