    Another Clutch compatablitly thread

Ok spent the last couple of hours searching on this and have came up with the following:

Im working on my second 24v swap; using 1998 M52 and ZF trans. i Have a Shaved M20 single mass Flywheel.

From what i read i need to use An m20 clutch and pressure plate, a pilot bushing for the ZF and the part that puzzles me is the throw out bearing. Use a M20 throw out?

Please confirm all this is correct, just need that confident feeling before ordering the rest of my parts. Thanks

The clutch kit, including throwout should match the flywheel used, which should match engine style. If the trans matchs the engine that is all that matters. Clutch selection is based on flywheel.

Pilot Bushing aka Pilot Bearing should match transmission used.

m5x engine with m20 single mass gets m20 single mass clutch kit and throwout. For both e30 five speed and e36 five speed.

m5x engine with m5x dual mass gets m5x dual mass clutch kit and throwout. For both e30 five speed and e36 five speed.

    Five Speed Transmissions:
Getrag 260 for e30, e28 small six, e34 early small six...

    Getrag 250 and ZF 310 and ZF 320 for e36, e34, e39...

By engine style I mean small 6 or big 6. m20 and m50 are interchangeable other than 10 degree tilt discussed elsewhere, but the getrag 260 for the m30 is different and wont mount to m50 or m20.

I'm pretty sure that even though part #'s differ there's really no difference in throwout bearings. At least not on the outside, maybe the m3 ones are slightly heavier duty or something. I gather this because E30's and E36 328's have the same throw out bearing, and e36 328's and m3's use the same tranny, and same size clutch. And i've compared used ones from an m3 and from an e30 side by side and saw no difference besides the part #. If you have an option order the right one, why not, but if you have an E30 one laying around I'd use it
