    Stomp test in pre-88 cars

my eta is an 85 and i was wondering if when i swap it for an m50tu if i'll now be able to do the stomp test since i have a newer dme which is set up for doing the stomp test? is this reasoning correct or am i dumb?

its correct that pre 1988 cars had no stomp test? so by adding an updated engine i should be able to stomp test?

my 87 325is had stomp test, havnt tried with my s50.

pretty sure all obd1 bmw's do the stomp test. its obd2 that it does not work with.

Think its all about what ECU you have, a example 153 ECU is 1.1 and wont be able to do the stomp test, 1.3 ECU's will and any 1.1 ECU can be replaced with a 1.3 ECU.

No idea how it works with swaps though. I assume if the check engine light still works, so will the stomp test.

If your check engine light is hooked up, yes it will work.

          ^That.
The ECU doesnt care what car the setup is in. Its looking at the throttle position sensor. Assuming you have a CEL wired properly and your Throttle cable is adjusted right it should work fine.

I've got an '86 325 chassis (probably similar wiring to yours). Most people have the E30 C101 pin 12 (BRN/BLK) connected to the E36 X20 pin 8 (GRY). I've found that my car does not have a wire/pin 12 in the harness, thus why the stomp test does not work for me.

Just get a Peak code reader for $50. If you're working through a swap and having lots of issues, it'll read out the codes a lot faster than the flashing check engine light will spit them out.

You know you can wire a CEL easily. I wire them in all my swap harnesses for pre 87i cars.

Bumping this thread because I'm trying to figure out how to add a check engine light to my 1987 BMW 325e.
