    Ecu chip question

What's going on guys. So pretty much I had purchased a 95 m3 a little while back. Long story short, I wanna do a 24v swap. The m3 had turner stage 3 on it. I have bought a red label 413 ecu. Now what I wanna know is if I can take the turner chip out of the old ecu and put it in the red label and have it run correctly. Thx

What was it in? A silver label ecu? Call turner and ask if it is compatible with a red label.

Yes the 506 and 413 chips will interchange.

ok so the m3 came with a 413 silver label ecu. i know i cant use a 413 silver in the e30 but can i take the chip outta the silver label and put in the 413 red label or does that not work?

Doesn't work if the chip has EWS. An M3 that came with a silver label 413 most likely had EWS so most likely the Turner chip also has EWS. If for some strange reason, the previous owner decided to delete it when he upgraded the chip, it will work.

One type of 413 DME is not really better than the other, you need chips for both. It's the chip that's the issue. The red label 413 DMEs contained chips without EWS. But, the 413 red did not come in an M3 so the non-EWS chip in a 413 red would be for an M50 so your S50 would run like crap. You'd need to upgrade the chip anyway. Almost all of the silver 413 DMEs had chips with EWS so you need to upgrade to a chip without EWS.

^ seconded. I've got the same chip chillin in my closet because it didn't work. I tested it in my red label.

FYI though, a stock red label chip WILL work in a silver ecu.

It will work but it won't run well if you use it on an S50 right? Because all of the 413 red DME chips were programmed to run an M50?

its just a matter of what chip it was. Some early S50's were red 413's, but my understanding is that it is a different chip. I can confirm soon as I have an s50 413 red on the way.

I can attest though, M50 413 red chip runs my S50 like a pile of poop...granted its not stock though.
